Thumbnail Text Checker
Thumbnail text has to survive a 168 pixel wide phone feed, a timestamp in the corner and a title that is already doing the talking. Upload your thumbnail, type the overlay words and this free checker previews them at the real feed sizes, then scores the word count, legibility, all-caps use, title repetition and timestamp overlap.

How to use it
Upload your thumbnail and type the overlay words. Add the video title if you have it.
Set the font size and where the text sits. The preview redraws at each feed size.
Read the score and fix anything flagged, then check the small feed sizes again.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
Upload 1280 by 720 pixels in 16:9, under 2 MB. YouTube shows it much smaller in most feeds, so the text has to read at roughly 168 pixels wide on mobile.
How many words should thumbnail text have?
Five words or fewer is the usual target. More than that and the text competes with the face and the title instead of adding to them.
Does my thumbnail get uploaded?
No. The image is read and previewed in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and no account is needed.
