A GIF is the easiest way to show a short moment on a site, in a thread or in a chat. This free video to GIF maker cuts a clip of up to 10 seconds, grabs the frames in your browser and encodes a looping GIF with an optional caption. Your video never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The frames are read and encoded in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and no account is needed.

Why is the GIF capped at 10 seconds and 480 px?

Long, large GIFs use a lot of browser memory and make heavy files. Ten seconds at 480 px wide keeps the result sharp for feeds and chats while the encode stays quick.

Why does a GIF look grainy?

GIF has a 256-colour limit. Turn on dither to blend colours with a pattern, which looks smoother on photos and gradients.
